About Waterloo Table Tennis Club

Waterloo Table Tennis Club is a well-known identity in Lower Hutt. It was established in 1949 by the late Mr Colin Giltrap, a local businessman, and has operated at the same venue throughout its history, located at Waterloo School Hall, Lower Hutt.

Over the years, many thousands of members have played at Waterloo, and beyond, at every level of participation.

Of particluar priority, the club has always encouraged its younger members to work hard to improve and achieve their full potential.

As a result, the club has fielded scores of Wellington and New Zealand representatives.

A special highlight is that we have produced three New Zealand Mens Single Champions:

  • Gary Murphy (1970)
  • Andrew Hubbard (1994)
  • Shane Laugesen (1996 and 2007)

We have also fostered a Womens Singles Runner-Up: Michelle White (1992).

All four players first started at our Junior Club.

We operate both senior and junior club nights, with seniors playing on Monday nights from 7.15 pm until late, and juniors (8-15 years) on Friday nights from 7.00 to 9.30 pm.
